ACTION:Generations |

MBMS International’s first formal ACTION:Generations team spent four weeks in Sao Paulo, Brazil serving alongside MBMSI missionaries Jim and Marilou Nightingale. Generations, which is similar to MBMSI’s summer ACTION program, emerged from the desire to target an older age demographic and fulfill a need for seasonal workers to experience missions in the winter months. Comprised of Ed and Kathy Peters from Manitoba and Ken Penner from Kansas, the team arrived in Brazil on January 14 and spent four days training before heading into three weeks of ministry. ACTION:Generations ran until February 11 after four days of debrief.

MBMS International celebrates life and ministry of Harry Friesen |

Former MBMS International missionary Harry Friesen passed away January 28, 2009. Harry was a respected member of the MB family with an apostolic calling in Japan, where he and his wife Millie, of 62 years, served together. Through their faithful service the MB Conference of Churches in Japan grew in numbers and maturity. Harry was known for his love of evangelism and the Word of God.

After 10 years of health complications – including severe diabetes, cancer, and a weakened heart – former MBMS International missionary Sally Schroeder Issak passed away peacefully on January 19, 2009.

MBMSI Remembers Patricia Klassen Tindall |

Patricia Klassen Tindall lived a life committed to God’s mission, serving overseas for nearly four decades. Born February 28, 1932, Patricia, or Pat, as she was known by many, passed away on December 8, 2008 in Fresno, California at the age of 76.

MBMS International would like to extend our warmest welcome to Dr. Ruth Schale of Bakersfield, California. Ruth was appointed by the US MB Conference as an MBMSI board member in July 2008. She will take part in her first board meeting in October: “I am excited gain a greater understanding of MBMSI and to be a part of enabling missions.”

Carlin Weinhauer retires after years of faithful service
Carlin Weinhauer retired from his position as Lead Team Mobilizer with the Mennonite Brethren Mission and Service International in Abbotsford, British Columbia this past June. Carlin served with MBMSI from 2005 to 2008, following a fruitful ministry at Willingdon MB Church and 15 years of teaching at Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, Saskatchewan.
