AngSila is a village that is deeply saturated in centuries of Buddhist beliefs.
Around every corner, temples and idols are a constant reminder of a community
that is putting their faith in an empty religion. But AngSila is not without
hope. God is at work. He is softening even the hardest of hearts and drawing
people into his presence.
Diana Price and Michelle Hood are recent TREK participants who spent seven months serving in the small fishing village of AngSila in Thailand. God is working in incredible ways in this community. As people are rising up to take a stand for Jesus, others are noticing. And as they watch and wonder, God is revealing himself in their own hearts. A lady named Oil (“P Oy”) was incredibly closed off to Christianity. When she heard that God healed two babies from HIV at the Abundant Life Home, an orphanage planted by MBMSI in Chonburi, Thailand, instead of opening her mind to God, she opened her heart to anger. In fact, as she saw others around her move closer to God, she became even angrier. Her daughter was one of those people.Diana and Michelle desired to build a relationship with Oil and asked her if she would teach them how to make Thai food once a week. Oil’s daughter had been asking her mom if she could become a Christian. Repeatedly, her mom told her no. But as she continued to meet with the girls to make Thai food, things slowly started to change. She began to wonder what would make a TREK group come to AngSila for seven months. What kind of faith must they have? Instead of coming over just to make Thai food, she began dropping by during bible study, too. She started allowing her daughter come to a cell group and sing worship songs. And when her daughter asked her mom again if she could become a Christian, this time Oil said yes! When the TREK team left Thailand at the end of May, Oil had reached a place in her life where she decided to investigate God for herself. What a change from the woman they first met! As Oil continues on a journey toward knowing Christ, God is breaking away the pieces of her stony heart with patience and mercy. Pray that God’s hand would be on this small community, and that he would give new hearts and new spirits to the many lost people of AngSila, just as he is doing with Oil. "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." Ezekiel 36:26 |
