Urban Mission Toronto is a partnership with the 614 St Jamestown Church. 614 St Jamestown is a joint ministry of The Salvation Army, Mennonite Brethren Church and Christian and Missionary Alliance.
St. Jamestown is a gathering of the world within a few city blocks - a
gathering that is caught in the tension of hopeful new beginnings and
unexpected hardship and disappointment. The many challenges, oppression
and stigmatization of the neighbourhood have fed an atmosphere of
despair, hopelessness and social disorganization. However, among the
darkness is a ray of light that Jesus Christ has not forgotten his
children in the community. He is present and calling his people to
remember this neighbourhood and to move in and minister in a truly
incarnational manner to the people of St Jamestown.
"Urban Mission Toronto was amazing! I don't think any of our team was prepared for what we would experience. The people we met in St. Jamestown were thrilled to have us come and help in their community. Many times we were asked where we were from and why we were there. It was a joy to be doing something "out of the ordinary" and to see people touched by it. I believe God gave the entire team servant's hearts and a real joy in doing for others even in the simple things. The mixture of ages on the team was a real blessing and I think it helped open everyone's eyes to different things. Most of all I believe God touched our hearts for the people." - Mike Dale, Ajax Community Church
