Myomi had been hearing about God for 12 years, but nothing seemed to penetrate her heart. She listened, but her ears did not hear. Her eyes could not see and comprehend what God was doing in the lives of those around her.

Laurence and Leona Hiebert are church planters in Japan. They also teach English as a Second Language (ESL) as a means of outreach. For years, Leona has taught from the Bible to her ESL students after each class session. For years, she has watched Myomi sit in her chair and listen to Leona talk about God. Myomi never reacted to what she heard - until a crisis hit.

Life Is Full Of Suprises Print E-mail
Life is full of surprises. Bob and Erika Sukkau, training leaders of the church planting team in Trujillo, Peru, are learning that first hand. This past fall, Bob found out he had a growth on his prostate. Needless to say, this was a frightening surprise. After scans, prayers and medical appaointments, the specialists believed it was a benign tumor, though one still necessary to remove.

We went to the hospital and discovered that we both had AIDS. Shortly after we were diagnosed, my husband became very ill and died. I felt very sad and without hope. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
