Ministry Update - Lloyd & Carol Letkeman Print E-mail
It has been six months since we’ve updated you on our adventures as a family.  Our travels have taken us to all the Prairie Provinces and also to the west coast. Read on and share in our experiences and make sure to let us know about your adventures this past season.

Mission Conferences across the Prairies
“God is not a ‘comfy’ god.  We were called to serve despite extreme illness, culture-shock and limited resources. However, our God was a powerful comforter in the situation,… He is always faithful.”  This is one of the points that Paul Peters shared with a congregation in Harvey, North Dakota this fall. October and November is the season for ‘mission weekends’ in most of our churches. Carol and I have been sharing our stories and those of our MBMS International missionaries in many churches across the prairies. Recently, two young men, Paul Peters and Jon Muehling, who served on our ACTION program this summer, joined me in Harvey, North Dakota. They were able to share pictures, stories and their growing passion for the nations. Three other ACTION participants will be traveling with us this winter as we share our passion for God’s kingdom.

Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo
Constant culture-shock was my way of explaining the overall sense I had while visiting my African brothers and sisters in Kinshasa this summer.  Yes, the food, sights, sounds and climate were different from home. lloyd_in_congo.jpgHowever, I believe the tenacious faith and courage practiced in the face of dire poverty and lack of infrastructure impressed me the most. I was met with surprising generosity and acceptance.  I extend many greetings from the MB conference of DRC to you, our generous support network. Many times I was thanked for visiting and urged to thank those who made it possible for me to come and bring encouragement. We have much to learn from our African family as we exchange friendship, listening ears, resources, time and energy.

ACTION ‘07
“Praise be to God for this wonderful team. They loved the Japanese people. We would love for them to come back and join us on a long-term church planting team.” –   Laurence Hiebert, Missionary host in Japan.

We had the privilege of training, sending and receiving back three teams on international assignments to Japan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mexico this summer.  Most of the 21 participants are in discernment regarding full time ministry vocations, many in international mission.

Urban Exposure, Outtatown – CMU
“I didn’t realize how attached to my ‘stuff’ I was until they asked me to exchange the clothes I was wearing with thrift store clothes. God is teaching me to find my identity in Him,… not my stuff.” -- David Young, Outtatown participant.  Being asked to exchange the clothes on their back outtatown_logo.jpgwas one of the many challenges that Canadian Mennonite University students were faced with during an Amazing Race activity in Winnipeg this fall. We helped CMU’s Outtatown program by facilitating three 4-day urban plunges.  In addition to the race, teams served alongside various inner-city ministries, practiced prayer walks, and were resourced in walking alongside the ‘least of these’.

Thank You
Thank you for your prayers and generous support. We are so blessed to have you as part of a supportive network helping us with the ministry of calling out a generation of leaders who are willing to take risks.  Your partnership with us contributes to the ministry of mentorship among brothers and sisters around the world who are following Jesus and calling others to join them in the journey.  Our lives are being transformed daily as we have the privilege of seeing other lives and communities transformed by the love and truth of Jesus.
