June was the climax of our official Jula studies. For the past year and a half we have been studying and working on learning the language. This month we went to Ouagadougou to do our assessment with SIL.
The test was meant to encourage us and to show us how much we have learned in the past year. Both Blaine and I passed a 2.5 level (intermediate level) thanks to the help we got from our language helpers. They tirelessly answered our endless questions.
The assessment took us 2 ½ hours as we identified pictures with the Jula word, went through greetings, bartering, explained cultural aspects (such as weddings and funerals), told a story, and translated sentences. Our language helpers came to translate everything into French so that examiner would know if we were correct of not. That evening we had some fun by playing games. It was such a relief to have done the test and passed.
Our next step is to start our French studies. We will be studying at Les Cedres in Massy, France starting Sept 3. As we transition from Africa to Europe we will take our vacation in Canada. So you won’t hear from us next month.
Thank you to everyone who have been praying for us. Sometimes I sit back amazed that I am understanding what people are saying to me. We praise God for his wonderful kindness to us.
May God give you a fantastic summer.
Love Blaine and Michelle
