Yes, the Ouellette family is alive and well and living in our new house in Phuket City, Thailand. We apologize for not writing sooner, but, as you can well imagine, these have been BUSY days!
What have we been up to, you ask?
-Well, first there was the unpacking, and setting up house....ongoing, but mostly complete.
-Next, we have quickly learned about all the great markets and shops in our neighborhood and are frequenting the "Dalaat Soat" regularly (for fresh fruit and vegetables).
-We have met some of our neighbors and spent time getting to know our landlord.
-We have begun connecting with a number of local Thai fellowships.
-The kids started school shortly after we moved in. They have had 4 weeks of homeschooling by now.... Wow, does that ever require a lot of time and energy!
-We have done some exploring as a family to check out our new surroundings.
-We have been trying to carve out some time to study Thai......some days go better than others.
-We spent a fair bit of time and energy hosting the MBMSI Asia Retreat & Consultation (held in Phuket this year).
-We had one wonderful week of holidays with 2 of Beck's brothers and their families.
So.....when you put it all together, and then add regular stuff like cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc., add in a flu bug that traveled around the houseduring our second week, there have not been many dull moments in our first 6 weeks in Phuket!
PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW
We are grateful to God for our new home.
We feel privileged to live in this beautiful country.
We are amazed at how God has provided language teachers for us.
We are thankful for renewed health and strength.
We praise God for the believers in Phuket. We have joined a small, but passionate group of Christians who desire to see God's kingdom advancing in Phuket.
We praise God for the arrival of our homeschool teachers (4 hours ago to be exact!!).
And we are thankful for you - for your encouraging words, for your prayers that sustain us, especially during these last few weeks. In many ways this has been a very challenging time for us.
WE'VE GOT MAIL
Thanks Monique and Jeff for the beautiful wedding invitation - a very appropriate first piece of mail for us in Phuket!
And Luke is thankful to his cousins Erica and Jadon and Nathan (and their parents!) for the successful sending of his awesome birthday package! (Mail item #2!)
Signing off for now,
exhausted, but rejoicing,
Becky and Greg and family
Ps We were tempted to write this letter without any spaces between the words... to try to give you an idea of what our first 6 weeks have felt like!!
