July 8 - August 10, 2008 (34 days/5 weeks)

Location: Kinshasa, DR Congo

Missionary Hosts: CEFMC (Congo Mennonite Brethren Church)

Country Overview
(view map ): The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the 3rd largest country in Africa with a population of about 55 million. Also, it is arguably the largest Mennonite Brethren conference in the world…twice as big as the USA and Canada conferences combined.  Some might say that the torch has been passed on. The CEFMC (Congo Mennonite Brethren Church) is planting their own churches and sending their own missionaries.  So, what are we doing in DR Congo?! The ACTION:Winnipeg team is called to build relationships with our brothers and sisters in DRC, partner with the CEFMC and respond to social need as a part of MBMSI's holistic focus. Click here for more information on MBMSI's involvement in DRC.

Assignment Description: The ministry assignment will support the initiatives of the Congelese MB Conference and will include everything from encouraging the church, working in medical clinics, repairing erosion damage and the list goes on.

Click the Read more link to find out more information about the projects you will be working on.
Some of the ministries you will be partnering with include:

Leve Toi (Stand You or Rise up you) - A school for visually, hearing, physically and vocally challenged children. School is out for their winter season, but they will need help sandbagging to repair severe erosion that occurs during the rainy season. In addition, the team will run a carnival for children of the school and in the community.

House of Mercy/Hope - This is a church run orphanage for street girls that focuses on teaching the girls life skills (such as sewing), helps them get a primary education and shares faith with them. The girls are between 12-18 years of age.

Bon Berger - A local Kinshasa initiative where all the medical staff are Christians and see their work as a ministry. The team will promote the clinic in the neighbourhood and help with practical tasks, pray for the staff and patient, etc.. If supplies are available, they will help paint and prepare the new building the doctors are building. The building is up but there is much work still to be done.
