Hello
Today was a great day to be alive and make new friends!
We met some great people on a boat cruise around Chortisa Island this afternoon. This is a 13 km long island in the Dniper River. A touring group from Tabor College invited us along so we and they might meet and get acquainted. Tabor is a Christian liberal arts college in Hillsboro, KS and affiliated with the MBs. Surprise - met Elmer Martens and his wife. Elmer was former president of Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary in Fresno. Beautiful day, perfect weather, some new friends.
The we went out to eat - a treat for Father's Day
Later when we walked towards our apartment entrance, three young girls greeted us; they were doing handcrafts on the bench! Grew to 5 young people - all so friendly. Some could speak some English, with one having quite a command of the language. They were so interesting. One even went to get her guinea pig (in Russian sea pig) to show us. Asking questions, telling us what they knew about Canada and showing us 2 English textbooks. Helpful, willing to teach us certain Russian words, phrases. And they also helped us with some everyday Ukrainian words. They would also love to watch some English movies at our apartment.
Then a gentleman arrived, grandfather to one of the girls. He invited us to join them on the bench every evening for conversation in Russian.
What a great place the Lord has lead us to - so many friendly people! We already know 10 times more people here in a few weeks than we did in our previous apartment complex.
So we trust the Lord for His guidance as we make new friendships.
Just wanted you all to know.
