The recent earthquake in the Chengdu region of western China has filled our TV screen once again with images of devastation and suffering. Thousands of people have lost everything they own and those they love the most. We have had a team in the area responding through the distribution of clothing, plastic tarps, water buckets, and essential survival items. We have been able to shelter children who have lost their families and face a new life of uncertainty. Our team is currently assisting the establishment of a home for these earthquake orphans and displaced families, and would invite you to join us in that response if you felt prompted to give. Many families have lost their homes in the most recent aftershocks this week. Thousands are sleeping outside for fear of further quakes. The hospitals are overflowing and those who are not injured live with fear and uncertainty about the future. Compassion in the face of disaster is our strongest witness to the reality of God's love when there seems to be no hope. Earthquakes and other disasters will continue to plague our world. It is at times like this that the world asks us for the reason for the hope that is within us. If you would like to join us in this hope filled response - please designate your gifts to C0140 our urgent relief fund. Please pray that this crisis will draw people into the arms of God. Items for Prayer-Pray for those who have been affected by the earthquake in China. Pray for comfort for those who are mourning and strength for those who are involved in the relief effort.-Baudouin Nsulunka, MBMSI missionary in South Africa writes, "The Social atmosphere for us as foreigners in South Africa, especially in Durban, is very critical at the moment. Xenophobia has reached a very high level with violence and some killings. Please, stand with us in prayer." Ministry Highlights-Robert & Erika Sukkau, missionaries with MBMSI in Peru, are returning home this year after 10 years of fruitful ministry in Trujillo. As the leadership of their church plant completes the transition to Sergio la Rosa, praise God for the faithful service of the Sukkaus and for the way He has raised up a new generation to take the baton of leadership.-We are thankful for the many young adults who have committed to spend their summer serving on MBMSI's ACTION teams in Germany, Thailand, Burkina Faso, Central Asia, France, Portugal, Japan, Mexico and DR Congo.
