JORNADA is an exciting initiative to help prospective missionaries bridge the gap between short and long term service. ACTION and TREK have provided profound training in missionary spirituality and a short term ministry component. JORNADA, while including training in missionary spirituality, will focus on ministry equipping and long term cross-cultural experience.
Overseas Ministry Experience:
Participants in the JORNADA program will commit themselves to at least two and one half years of cross-cultural ministry. During this time they will dedicate themselves to language learning, where necessary, and active involvement in holistic church planting (leadership training, evangelism, social ministries). Their ministry experience will be mentored and evaluated by an experienced missionary team. They will also maintain regular communication with the MBMSI Team Leader for Training and Team Health. The team will receive visits from members of the lead team during the last half of their term for evaluation and discernment regarding future service. The final two months of the 3 year term will be dedicated to spiritual direction, mutual evaluation, and relationships with supporting churches. Through listening to God's voice and hearing each other, these concluding months will provide guidance for future cross-cultural ministry.
Mentoring:
All JORNADA participants will be paired up with an experienced mentor, preferably a missionary with service experience among that people group.
Training:
All JORNADA participants will take part in MTE (Missionary Training and Equipping). This 4-month training in Abbotsford includes training modules organized by MBMSI staff. Some of the topics covered are: Spiritual Authority/Conflict, Worldview, Evangelism, MB Mission History, World Religion, Ministry to M*sl*ms, Cross-Cultural Assessments, Multi-Cultural Teams, Boundaries, Mentoring/Member Care, Finances, Suffering, Listening to God, Church Planting, Church Relations, Intercessory Prayer, Five-Fold Ministry, and Communication. The Church Planting module will be available for seminary credit through ACTS seminary.
Finances:
JORNADA participants will be expected to raise $1000 - $1750 USD in monthly support during MTE and support raising, $3000 - $4000 USD in monthly support on assignment, and also finances for international travel, prior to departure for assignment. Couples and families will need to raise support according to their particular needs. This support should be raised through sending churches and related individuals.
