The Assignment phase gives you the opportunity to put into practice what you have learned. You will have the opportunity to serve, disciple & evangelize in a cross-cultural setting.  Whether you are in Asia, South America or Europe, this will be a time of significant growth and service.  As noted in the Orientation section, assignment locations and teams are determined during the On-Site Training.   Past TREK Teams have served in a wide variety of locations such as:

  • Sarah Doucet was only 11 years old when God whispered a call to her soul. Missionaries to Peru were visiting her home church and sharing about their ministry with the congregation. Though she was just a little girl, Sarah was confident that God was calling her to Peru to share his love with the poor and the broken. Not knowing how or when this would happen, Sarah waited with the faith of a child.

  • God is using an English as a Second Language (ESL) ministry in Japan to draw people to Himself. As MBMSI’s Winter TREKers learned, building relationships in a Japanese culture is a difficult task. But despite this challenge, God is using an English-teaching ministry to make His name known in a culture where Christianity is seldom spoken of.

Panama Team | Print |
When four TREKers went to serve the Wounaan people, an indigenous tribe in Maje, Panama, they went to build latrines. Not only did this project give them the opportunity to make inroads into the tribe, but it also enabled them to build a relationship and share God’s love with someone from their own culture – a Peace Corps worker named Jacob.

  • When Joanna Chapa of Tabor College went to Toyota City, Japan for three-and-a-half months of service with MBMS International’s TREK program, she knew that she would probably be speaking a lot of English. But the last thing that she expected was the opportunity to put her Spanish language skills to use. This unique experience, however, is one that God used to reveal His love and faithfulness.

Partway into his service in Panama with TREK, Andrew felt himself growing restless. He was enduring a season of discouragement in Maje, where his team was serving the Wounaan, an indigenous tribe in the jungle. Language and cultural barriers made it difficult for Andrew to connect to this people group, and he grew frustrated over this difficulty.

AngSila is a village that is deeply saturated in centuries of Buddhist beliefs. Around every corner, temples and idols are a constant reminder of a community that is putting their faith in an empty religion. But AngSila is not without hope. God is at work. He is softening even the hardest of hearts and drawing people into his presence.
